When you hear the number 27 million it sounds quite intimidating. There are 27 million people enslaved and only one of me? How can I do anything? There are ways individuals can make a difference, and Freedom 4/24 gives a number of practical ways to get involved with saving the 27 million individuals from slavery. Freedom 4/24 raises awareness for the sexually exploited as well as giving financial support to various abolition and victim restoration focused organizations around the world and in the United States. I urge you to commit to one, two, or all three of the following steps of action.
1.) Know the facts.
You now know that there are 27 million slaves worldwide, but did you know that the average age of victims around the world is 12 years old? Did you know that the average global price of a slave is $90? Think about this, the FBI has a list of 13 areas with the highest child sex trafficking in the United States, and California holds three of those areas. When you are educated and informed of the facts the problem becomes a lot more real and taking action becomes a lot less avoidable.
2.) Act now.
Do you enjoy running? Freedom 4/24 holds 5k races that raise both money and awareness for the exploited. Do you dread even the thought of running any distance but have the ability to organize a successful event? If you appreciate planning events, then you should consider hosting a Run for Their Lives race in your hometown. You can also sponsor a race under your company's name, or donate money personally. Become an advocate and be the voice for the 27 million whose voices cannot be heard.
3.) Donate.
Give your time or money to an organization who is equipped to combat against slavery. Here are some of my favorite organizations: International Justice Mission, Freedom 4/24, Samaritan's Purse
Remember, you are just one person, but one person can make a difference.
