The Merriam Webster dictionary defines freedom as: “the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action or liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another: independence.” I am free. I live in a country where I can worship God and not have to hide to do so. Even greater, I am free from the bondage of my sin because of what Jesus did for me on the cross. John 8:34 declares: “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.” The passage does not stop there though, Jesus continues in the next two verse: “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” This means that because of the Son, Jesus’, death on the cross I am free from the slavery and debt of my sin. If Jesus had not come here to earth, live a life of 33 years without sin, and then die on the cross to pay the debts for the sins of the whole world, I would be entangled in my sin without any hope. So what should we do out of thanksgiving of such a gift of freedom? Go. Go out and tell others your story of freedom. Go help free the slaves of human trafficking and tell them of the hope you have because of what Jesus did.
